FIRE: Sparking the Flames in Each Other

FIRE, SPARK's youth zine, celebrates the power of resistance and resiliency of queer and trans youth of color in the South by capturing their stories, experiences and longings through art and culture.

SPARK Reproductive Justice Now

SPARK Reproductive Justice Now has created a zine packed with information, resources, art and exercises that is both a conversation starter and a tool for LGBTQ and same-gender loving youth of color in the South and others who support queer and trans youth. FIRE provides valuable information for LGBTQ youth that may be hard to find including safer sex, relationship and communication; celebrates and honors us as survivors and thrivers; and demonstrates that communities really can make what we need.

How can YOU use FIRE?

  • Share it with youth and youth organizations who are looking for information on sexuality, dating and relationships for LGBTQ youth of color, particularly in the South.
  • If you work with youth, use the resources and activities in the zine to create political education workshops on how young people can get left out of conversations around sexuality education based on race, sexual orientation and gender identity...and what we can do about it!
  • Use it as an inspiration and model for the youth that you work with for doing activities that incorporate art and culture and even creating their own zine!

By reading FIRE, you’ve seen how powerful it is to tell the stories of our own experiences. To see how you can take your own experiences and connect with folks in your own community, check out Lifting Up Latino/a Voices!.
