About Sexuality Education Justice

At ACRJ, we want:

  • Sexuality education that has a HOLISTIC view of sexuality & sexual health, including positive body image, self-esteem, gender identity, sexual orientation, and communication and decision-making in relationships.
  • Sexuality education that recognizes sexuality as a NATURAL part of human development and does NOT  make sexuality seem dirty or dangerous.
  • Resources that focus on promoting overall sexual health of all people, including marginalized communities — people of color, LGBTQ folks, people with disabilities, immigrants, etc.
  • Resources that include the experience of Asian communities — youth and adults.
  • EQUITY in sexuality education for all students and all people.
  • Sexuality education JUSTICE.

What are we doing about it?

ACRJ has created Transforming API Communities:  Tools for Sexuality Education. We are using this toolkit to engage service providers in Asian communities to support the leadership of parents and caregivers in talking with their children and youth about sexuality and sexual health and to take action for sexuality education justice. By providing parents with tools and resources for fostering family communication, we can support parents in building strong families by developing a trusting relationship with their children, one where children feel comfortable approaching them with questions and concerns about sex and relationships.

A new project, Lifting our Voices, will provide the basis for a communications campaign that lifts up the stories and experiences of Asian families. Watch for our stories soon!

Transforming API Communities is part of The New Sex Ed, a brand new multi-media resource for organizing in grassroots communities and building a movement for sexuality education justice. The New Sex Ed was created collaboratively by SexEd!, a Strategic Cohort of EMERJ, ACRJ’s movement building initiative. The New Sex Ed is full of tools and resources that you can use to bring sexuality education justice to your communities!
